So, the other night, I was driving home from work at around 12:30 AM. I was tired. Anyway, I saw some water droplets on my windshield, so I ran the wipers and they just smeared. Turns out they were tree sap (I think) but I didn’t think of that at the time. I was momentarily distracted by thoughts of “what the hell kind of water is this?” and whatnot, so I only really noticed that the light ahead of me wasn’t changing. It wasn’t until I was in the crosswalk at 45mph that I realized it was red the whole time. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen so much tire smoke, and the first time I’ve been the one to create it. Luckily there was no cross-traffic, and I was able to guide the car into a slightly-less-blatantly-illegal right turn.

Now, I’m not trying to take the blame away from myself or anything. I fully admit that it was my fault for being distracted, and I’m only explaining why I was distracted. That said, we all make mistakes, but not all of us admit it. Hopefully the next time you have sap on your windshield, you’ll remember not to stare at it until you’re safely parked.

Also, my dashcam was rolling and I’ll have the video uploaded in a week or so when I’ve gotten more stuff recorded.
